fifa 07 freezing

I brought my son Fifa 07 on p.s 2 about three months ago, and it has now started freezing after loading. It does work sometimes but more often not. Have tried on another p.s.2 and it's the same. It does have minor scratches on the disk, is this the cause? if so can anything be done?

I had a game that wouldnt even load cos of the scratches, someone on here told me to use brasso on the disc then polish it off, and it worked, try it, good luck :-)
