8 Answers
I have my 40th birthday approaching next May(2008) and want to get away as I dont want any fuss or cards with 40 on them.I love snow and cold weather as I am very hot blooded and want to go away for a fortnight somewhere really cold.I am not fussed about skiing or snowboarding,I just want to see the snow.Any ideas? It will just be me,the hubby and our 14 year old son.

or Svalbard

Otherwise you might find some snow in Lapland (which straddles northern Sweden and northern Finland:

However, May is heading into summer in the Northern hemisphere so (with the exception of places like Greenland, Svalbard, Northern Canada, Alaska and Northern Russia) it's going to be difficult to get guaranteed snow anywhere.

I would recommend Latin America. You could go skiing / boarding in Los Penitentes in Argentina.

Another option is to go Ushuia at the ver south of Argentina, there is snow and ice here, in the winter. You can go on boat trips through the Beagle Channel, and see seals, and penguins (at the right time of year). It is not called the 'city at the end of the world' for nothing.

Another option is to go the Moreno glacier, where you can go ice hiking on the glacier, and watch, as hugh chuncks fall off. Which is more fun than it sounds.
