paying for good before delivery

I have just made a large carpet order with a major retailer and paid 50% deposit. They want the balance before delivery. They are not dodgy and have been in business years but I wondered if this is normal.

i have always paid 100% of the price before delivery for flooring. You only pay the delivery men/fitters on the day. The fitters are usually self employed and not part of the company thats why

We had the same. I do feel that it reduces your chances of getting any satisfaction in the event of a dispute.
