Has anyone had any dealings with the LR. My ex is trying to put a charge on my property. My solicitor is fighting it with his solicitor. Its got to the state where my ex has had to submit his statement of case, which he has done, but his solicitor has got it wrong and had to resubmit by the 12th Feb. He has had about 3 extensions and it looks like they are asking for another one. Basically he has no evidence. How many extensions do the LR allow, we ere also told they wont give extensions unless all parties agree to it, we did not agree to the last one or this one but it looks like hes getting it again.

I got a call from my solicitor on the morning of completion last year when i was selling my flat/buying new house. My ex had put a charge against the flat i was selling but my buyers solicitor didnt pick upon this until the day of completion. My ex wanted 9k out of me if i didnt agree to that i would not have been able to complete. Worse stil i would have lost my flat i was selling, the house i was buying, and no doubt be sued from both sides for not completing as planned.
I didnt have any choice but to find 9k in a few hours. However as we ended up completing late in the day i ended up paying extra interest charges for late completion, additional solicitors/ moving costs
My ex never paid towards the mortgage, the flat was owned by me and i lived there by myself before i met him, he contributed just to the bills. However when we first got together he wasnt working and then later when we were together, he couldnt work due to an accident and I supported him financially for a number of months. However what he told his solicitor is that he paid me 250 a month for 3 years = 9k.He never set up direct debit, often gave me cash so I want to know what evidence he would have had to show his solicitor? I feel that i was backed into a corner with no time to present my case. Im not saying my ex didnt contribute but i would disbute the amount.
Surely someone has some legal obligation to contribite when they live in a property? Now he has his 9k back he has lived rent free for 3 years -how can that be morally or legally right?! I feel that if I had some time to prepare my side of things i could have proved he never paid the amount he stated but i didnt get that chance.
Plus the charge on my property was presented so late in the sale/ purchase I had no choice but to settle without a fight.
Would appreciate some legal views on this if there are any lawyers out there!
Well is the property in your sole name ? Did you get a proper settlement when you divorced, or perhaps you were never married. If you did then he should not be able to come back later. I think you need to give a little more background for a better answer .........
just been through the same thing. The law is an ass! To go to court to state your case and then let a judge decide who is right or wrong costs more than settling so had to settle out of court to avoid paying between 10,000- 20,000 legal fees. just dont believe this is fair, especially as my ex and I split up over 4 yrs ago. Its not about proof, who paid what etc, its about getting out of the claim with the least expenses. If your ex is on legal aid, you`ve got no chance in not paying as they have got nothing to lose....sorry

Hi folks we were not married. The prop is now in my sole name. The transfer of the prop was agreed that I would pay off his existing mortgage which I did (all thru my solicitor. I took a new mtg in my name. He accepted and cashed a sum of money) I even have a letter from him as have my sol and building society saying how much he was selling the property to me for. He is now denying this letter and says he will get a handwriting expert to check it out. Thats fine by me as he 200% signed it.
