Traditionally you use up all the left over food in the house and make them into pancake type things on pancake tuesday and begin the fast (Lent) the next day (ash wednesday).
Jesus rode out of the desert on a donkey on palm sunday (the sunday before easter sunday) so that is when his fast (and therefore lent) traditionally ends. It can't go on to easter sunday because Jesus was put to death on good friday and therefore couldnt have still been fasting!
However people nowadays just seem to count it up to easter sunday

Why do you want to give something up because of a meaningless religious event? If you want to be healthier for a given period, then just do it. You don't need religion, you just need to use your own brain and do it for yourself. Every day is an opportunity to use your intelligence and freedom to do whatever you like to make your own life and others' lives more enjoyable - please don't burden yourself with religion - it's there to keep people docile, manageable and unthinking. Think for yourself and be free!
