Television Drama research help required

I am currently carrying out some research into the effects of media technology on television drama. I would be very grateful if as many people as possible could take the time to help me compile some opinions on this subject by answering the questions below and hopefully raising some interesting points.

How many hours do you spend a day watching television drama (including serial dramas ie. Hollyoaks)?

Firstly, do you feel that in general television drama has improved within the last five years, and if so in what areas? What areas still need improvement?

Would you like to have your own say on events within television drama? If so how would you like this to be carried out?

Do you feel the Internet has a positive or negative aspect on Television Drama and in what ways?

With the introduction of TV On demand (ie. 4oD) and the evolution of Sky+ have your viewing habits altered in any way?

With the development of Special Effects and Filming equipment tied together with the evolution of HDTV do you feel that soon or currently the quality of television drama makes it/will make it better value than going to the cinema to see a blockbuster or renting a DVD?

1. 30 minutes -2 hours depends on one offs
2. Yes, humour is better and more observant. characters personality traits are more identifiable with people we know, also real life events or people are mentioned more.
3. We usually discuss what may have been a good thing to happen or an interesting storyline, but think if it was left open to the internet for all to have a say, then it would get too fragmented and characters would lose the plot, a bit like Brookside really. Recently started the Emmerdale internet thing but lost interest as has gone on too long. Also the internet has made us look forward to particular episodes of corrie with the spoilers available, but we arn't allowed to tell the elders, it spoils it for them if they know!

4. Sky+ has definately changed my viewing habits, I watch more drama, and when I'm ready to sit down and in the mood to watch it, also I can fast forward adverts.

5. I think the cinema will always remain a thing of social pleasure, and also some films are better watched in a large audience.

Sorry, I usually can be a bit more theoretical and give a critical analysis, but I'm tired. I'll come back to any debate.

1. depends on whats on but about 1-2.30hours
2. yes they deal with more real life things that people who watch could actually be going through, they could improve characters not going missing then suddenly reapering that can be annoying.
3.No it wouldnt be the same as not knowing what was going to happen next, i like suprises.
4. positive, you can sometimes watch clips of your favourite programs and find out when they're on whats happening ect.
5. I generally dont watch the whole programs any more with sky+ i skip the boring bits and fastforward the adverts so i watch less tv becuase of it.
6. No becuase its nice to be in the cinema watching something instead of stuck at home watching it.
