Is anyone familiar with the thinking that "you must wear something new on easter sunday, else the birds will bob on you?"???!!!

In my childhood it was said about Whit Sunday (six weeks before Easter). We were kitted out in new clothes and visited neighbours and relatives while wearing them. We would receive a small coin "to put in tha pocket" and it was one of my favourite time of the year.
