Trying hard to fix it

Thanks for all your answers people, however it's just not playing ball. Keep getting an error message now:-
C:/Documents and settings/Fee/Local Settings/Application Data

saying the file is corrupt and unreadable and I need to run the check disk facility blah blah. It's still on an endless loop when I boot up and has to be interupted if I want to log on. It's also messing with my net connection.

PAULN90. you suggested having a look for errors in the system event viewer, I did that and found them but couldnt quite get my head round what to do about it. I right clicked and refreshed to see if it would fix itself but to no avail. Once again thank you for your time and efforts, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi Fee...I dont know what other answers you have had to this question but i hope this helps...When you next get into your PC go to a command prompt (Start - Run - in box type CMD and press return/enter) where the curser is flashing type CHKDSK /F. You will get a message saying that the facility is not available because the file is in use and do you want to run it on next boot up type Y and press return/enter. When you next boot up the check disk will run and by putting the /F on the command you are telling the computer to fix any errors it comes across...let me know how you get on. SID

What were the errors reported in event viewer can you supply the type of error and the event number this may give us a clue.

Prior to these errors did you delete anything from your pc especially if you did not use the "Add/Remove" feature

Well Fee i think you are going to find that your Windows installation is corrupt. There are 2 things i would try. First of all i would boot the PC in safe mode. Allow it to boot all the way up then shut it down. This sometimes corrects the problem. If this doesnt work try reinstalling the operating system. I am assuming this is an XP based computer. Any probs get back to me i will provide instructions if you need them..

hey sidney, cheers for your time. I've mislayed my original windows disk thingy. Is there a way I could get round it? I've put a link to my original query so you can have a look at what i've already tried. It's getting silly now!!
