Does anyone have a 'cure' for allergic rhinitis, which doesn't involve taking anything 'horrible'!
My 20 year old grandson suffers horribly, and his GP just doesn't seem to take much interest, just prescribes nasal sprays.
Has anyone been reffered to a consultant, and how did it go?

hi worried grandma.
Has he had an allergy test?
Does he live with any pets? ie cat as this is a common trigger.
GPs are a nightmare when it comes to allergies and wont probably refer him for one (I was once told it was like searching for a needle in a haystack!)
I think a company called YORKTESTING do a really good one but they are quite pricey.
Oh Anti-histamine medication may help too.
Try go for supermarkets own brand as these will be so much cheaper than the named stuff.
hi big, talk to your local pharmacist may suggest different medication.

Thank you for your help. Will try both.
Hello bigsister, I too am a sufferer of this annoying and debilitating condition all year round, some days I dont have it - other I wake up with it and cant breathe. I found that the OTC tablets called 'Contact' help me alot, I too have had the nasal steroid sprays which dont help much...its so annoying to sit at my office desk constantly sneezing and itching my nose and eyes - I wouldnt mind if it was sunny, but the weather is dismal. Good luck and I hope you find a pill that works for your g/son.

Thank you very much to you all. Roughquest - I hope one day there will be a cure for this horrible condition.
Love to all.
I'm 22 and also have allergic rhinitus and have had since i was 5. I have only ever been given nasal sprays and would love to know how to sort it out once and for all. Let me know how it goes with your grandson.
A good help is to smear the outside of your nostrils with vaseline. Any allergens stick to the vaseline thus preventing them from entering the nose and causing the reaction. his can be used around the eyes too but be careful not to get it in the eyes.
