Car Immobiliser Mystery

There is a small area in front of the place where I work where several people, over a period of months, have had trouble with their car immobilisers. They have been unable to get into their cars, from as little as a few minutes, and one instance of an hour!
Anybody parking just fifteen yards away from this area never have any trouble. The problem is always confined to this one small area, and is only ever occasional, and doesn't affect everybodys car, nor always the same cars.
Theories put forward include phone mast or cctv causing interference, but nobody knows for sure. Can anybody throw some light onto this weird occurrence?
