When I started, I found that tuition books made me feel miserable, so I bought a book called The Big Acoustic Songbook. It has all of the chord formations at the top, and I found it much more enjoyable to go through through the book and just give it a go. It has lyrics too, so you can sing along. It's actually amazing how easy it is to make progress this way, especially with songs that are primarily D,A,G songs.
