I believe the legal depth of tread is 1.6mm min. Is the tyre still legal if the edges of the tyre are worn caused by scuppering or bad tracking?

The legal 1.6mm minimum tread depth must extend over the centre 75% of the tyre breadth, as shown in this cross-section diagram.

Tyre condition such as cuts, lumps, bulges, tears, exposure of the ply or cord, or tread separation will also render it illegal.

One edge scuffed/feathered = incorrect wheel alignment.
Both edges scuffed/feathered = incorrect air pressure (too low )
