Smelling gas in my sitting room

Hi, i have one of those Gas style log burners, i sometimes notice that i can small gas in the room, not alot and not all the time. when i last 'lit' the fire the flames were about 4 times the height, the glass front looked 'wet' and the gas smell stung my eyes. Suffice to say i have switched it off and not attempted to touch it. I was wondering if i informed British Gas (my provider) what they would do? Is a checking service free, or would they charge and in which case i'm i better just getting a CORGI man? no point in paying if there is a 'free' way, so if you can offer advice that would be great. TIA

carbon monoxide or leaking gas will kill you

get a corgi engineer to carry out a safety check, its not that expensive

Ditto previous response - do not mess with this. You need a proper Corgi engineer.

Erm call out the gas board emergency number, dont mess with it, and dont light up a smoke untill old gas man turns up, and make sure you make him a nice cup of tea with a garibaldi, there very fond of those....
