Graham Norton - why??

Does anyone find him remotely entertaining? I gave his new show a whirl - Gwen Stefani looked embarrassed to be there and so would I.
Caught a first glimpse of that appalling talent show too last night - as per earlier thread - sheer and utter pants. DVD next weekend.

Because when I challenge the Irish faggots entertainment qualities, the editor always bans my answers. But I do not relent - this guy is possibly the most untalented, unwatchable, unnwelcome intruder to come through my television screen. Whichever programme he appears in, somehow takes a downward dive as soon as he opens his mouth to spout his infantile, innuendo drivel. Appropriately he fronts When Will I Be Famous - a question we are all asking. Yes, I know there is an off switch . . . . unfortunately it only works temporarily, because the same Norton virus appears the next time . . . .
Thankyou! I am clearly not alone. What really concerns me on these show are the audiences - are they paid to come along and shriek?? Surely they would prefer to be elsewhere or is it just to be on tv?
We live amongst the best comedians on the planet - surely the live audience knows there is more to live than freakin Norton.

GN amassed huge viewing figures for his Channel 4 show, so the BBC decided to pach him, which it did, for a massive fee.
Of course, they conveniently forgot that his forte is inuendo of a style which is allowed far more largesse on a commercial than it is on the BBC, which has to answer to its licence payers, and provides an entirely different set of programes, for a different audience.
Now Norton has become the BBC's white elephant. They can't afford not to use him, they paid too much to stop Channel 4 having him (which is not quite the same as actually wanting him for themselves) and now they are stuck with him.
Since his arrival, Norton has lurched from one dire format to another, remaining resolutely one-dimensional and largely un-entertaining. For some rerason, the BBC has decided that 'variety' should be given as mass entertainment? Why? If it worked, ITV would already be doing it - they aren't ... because it doesn't! Tastes are far more sophisticated these days, you might as well stop giving kids i-Pods and offer them chemistry sets instead.
You wonder how on earth an organisation with the financial resources, and cultural history of the BBC could get it so horribly, and expensively wrong, but then one word comes to mind .....DAVINA.

Yes, I do. I think he's hugely entertaining. I think he's hilarious, a naturally funny man with a quick repartee. I used to enjoy the various chat shows he had on Channel 4 and, unfortunately, when he moved to the Beeb, they didn't really know what to do with him and just used him as a compere for Strictly Dance Fever, 'Maria' and now this talent show.
sir.prize - so you don't like Graham Norton - that's fine but it comes out about halfway down your rant, Your first comments are that he is Irish and gay, both facts, but the way you state them make you nasty and homophobic. So you think it appropriate that he fronts When Will I Be Famous? Well, whether you like it or not, HE IS FAMOUS, so tough. These days there are many tv channels, especially if you have Sky, so just don't watch anything he is on, simple isn't it?
By the way, my lone voice in support as opposed to seven (get your figures right - two posts were just correcting spelling mistakes) against does not constitute a nationwide definitive anti Graham Norton vote - don't be so stupid!

Graham Norton along with Julian Clarey, Jo Brand, Russell Brand and Ricky Gervais are people that I find annoying in the extreme as they are in my opinion unfunny, obnoxious and a waste of money and airtime. Apart from his appearances on Father Ted when he had wonderful scripts to work from, I have never laughed at anything he has said or done.
Well I LOVE Graham Norton and I am really glad he is back on the box doing what he does best - chat show after the watershed. It isn't his fault that the BBC have used him for all sorts of awful programmes. I used to look forward to So Graham Norton on Channel4 on a Friday night. Wish he had never gone over to the Beeb! Wonder what happened to Betty.
valsuey i'm with you on this one.
I love Graham Norton. I think he is so hilarious, and i know many people find him off putting, but i find him absolutely funny. I love his shows, espcially when he was on Channel 4. He can be blunt and rude at times or most times but, he's just so funny. He always cracks me up. I've read his autobiography and it's really good! lol
