Unexploded Bombs

How often are unexploded WW2 bombs found in people's back garden?

I know soaps are far fetched but a similar thing happened in Eastenders a few years back..

How come the bomb wasn't discovered when the houses were built as these were the newbuild houses in Corrie? The JCB must have missed it.
