thinking of buying a 1998 dicovery 3.9 petrol. any comments?

The discovery is a very capable vehicle, the TDi version is more economical to run mind. V8i is powerful but thirsty. Check engine for leaks, and try and get a full service history. There are a number of trim levels, check all electrics work, and if there is air con, let it run a while to confirm it really is cold, easy to be fooled in this weather. Parts are cheap and widely available, and there are no end of helpful sites. Try posting the same question on this site www.lro.com under message borads and discovery. You will get a lot of Discovery owners coming back with all the information you could wish for.

best with a td5 or if you want the power the diesel v8 but by all means go for it
