How long does it take to grow a hedge? I'm a gardening novice, so any advice on quick growing hedges would be appreciated.

Cheers

The label on the hedge that I bought said in 10 yrs it will be 120cm or 4ft.

It needs regular watering and good ground prep/ compost if you are to get the maximum growth.

I think it would also encourage upwards growth if they are planted fairly close together!

The fastest method of achieving privacy would be to use Russian Vine. It grows so quick we trimmed ours the same time as we cut the grass.
Always assuming its privacy your after, but you don't say what its for.
I think the best thing you can do, is go to a Garden Centre, maybe more than one, so you can compare answers, and explain to their experts what you want, and why.
Rose hedging is the best - something like Rosa Rugosa. We ordered 250 and it was delivered in a jiffy bag but grew like wildfire. It was also covered with lovely pink roses in the summer and rosehips later. Well worth buying probably from one of those catalogues you get in the weekend papers.
Good Luck
