Hotel Rooms

Firstly thanks to all those abers that offered reassurance and advice about our trip to Barcelona when I posted a question about the pickpockets etc back in January. Have just returned and had a wonderful trip without any problems!
Regarding hotels can anyone explain why they number their rooms the way they do, we stayed in room number 309 in a hotel with just 80 rooms, just curious. Thanks

Does the 3 refer to which floor the room was on?

room 9 on the 3rd floor?

They number them the same way in large hotels here.

Thanks folks, I think you've hit the nail on the head! It certainly was on the 3rd floor and might well have been room 9.
