If any account is in joint names you are jointly liable, The creditor can chase anyone they like whose name is on the account (or loan) for the whole amount. They failed with your partner so they are now going after you. The point is can you afford it? If not try to come to some arrangement with them. Offer them a small payment per month and they will ask to look at your finances to see if it is fair. If you are on benefits or a very small income the courts willl often award a very small regular payment, somwetimes none as with your partner. The latest claim seems to be within the six year window for civil debts. ps there are many free debt counselling services. Try Debt National Advice Helpline 088-0854554
