the above site should help - but my friend imported a dog from Denmark - it had to be chipped, then have blood tests, and more tests the day before it was due to fly. You have to have a dog passport, and when it arrives in the UK they test the chip to see if it matches the passport. We had to collect the dog from Manchester, not every airport in the UK accepts pets, so you need to check that out before you book your flight if you attend to fly with the cat.
when we came back from Dubai and couldnt leave our two cats behind, they had to go in quarantine for 6 months. This all had to be arranged before we sent them.
BA flew them but had regulations re size of carry box etc and price depends on weight of cat +box. You are not allowed to collect from airport and take to quarantine cattery, they the cattery must do that, its law. What miffed us was they charged 90 per cat to collect and drive to the wilds of Essex but they collected both cats at the same time so we expected some sort of discount but didnt get.
You wont be allowed to just take the cat on board with you and choose a quarantine near where you are moving to as you will want to visit during the 6 months.
Try Google for quarantine catteries, but hopefully if you are bringing from Europe it will be much easier and cheaper as it cost us about 2 grand for the 2 cats altogether.
