thanks

can you maybe block the area of the roof where they seem to want to go? Or what i would do is put out several bird feeds
and keep them stocked with seed of some other wild birdie treat and hope that those draw their attention away from your roof. I would think there is some type of bird deterrent that you could use. Maybe try you local pet store and see if they can recommend something far removed from your sleep deprived gun idea. You're a sweetie for not wanting to hurt them. I know what havoc sleep deprivation can play on ones thought processes. Have you tried some well fitting ear plugs? just a thought.
I have this problem too - does anyone think those plug-ins might work -they dont for mice
some pet firms will sell you either a stone cat or owll that you can put on the roof.
Somehow birds cannot tell the difference..Will you stop to see if they are real or false.?
food will not stop them- I would guess its likely starlings or sparrows- and they will be scouting out and building nests. So food will just be an added attraction- try blocking the hole or use a raptor silhouette as reccommended above. There is another good reason for not shooting them (presume you are in the UK?) - its illegal! Not only to shoot them- but also to disturb any bird at its nest.
