Video Recorder to Freeview Box
4 Answers
Please can anyone help me - I thought I had this sussed even though I am a low tech Pensioner!
I have a new TV connected to a VCR and have a rooftop aerial. No problem with Freeview on TV as I connected everything with scarts and put the aerial lead into the VCR and scart from there to TV - brilliant. However, I decided to get a Freeview box and find I can't use it with my VCR, although everything else works ok. I feel it may be that the digibox has only ONE scart socket? This is how I connected everything:
TV has ONE scart connection only plus an aerial connection (RF in?)
The VCR has AV1 and AV2 scart sockets plus two connections marked RF in and RF out.
The Digibox has one scart connection and two other connections marked RF in and RF out.
This is how I have connected everything.
The aerial lead from the roof aerial I put into 'RF in' on the digibox.
From the digibox I took a lead from 'RF out' and connected it to the TV 'RF In' where the aerial would normally go if I used TV only.
Also from digibox I connected a scart lead to the scart connection on the TV. EVERYTHING WORKS FINE!
I now have a VCR plugged into mains with nowhere to connect any further scarts/cables. Am I missing something here or was I correct in thinking that I must buy a digibox with two scart connections so that I can connect between there and the VCR? If so, then can I put in a 'doubler' scart on the digibox instead of buying a new one OR have I just wired up everything wrong!!
Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Connect the digibox to the AV1 socket on the video, then the AV2 socket on the video to the TV. Similarly with the old-fashioned aerial, connect your actual aerial to the RF-in on the digibox, then the RF-out on the digibox to the RF-in on the video, then the RF-out on the video to the TV.
That should do the trick.

However you wire it up, you will NOT be able to watch one digital channel whilst recording a different digital channel without using a second digital box. You should however be able to watch terrestrial analogue channels whilst recording a digital channel.
This is what I have:
Aerial splitter feeding to both the TV and the digibox.
Scart from digibox to video recorder.
Scart from video recorder to TV.
On the TV, select channels 1 -5 to watch analogue, or choose AV to watch digital channels. You may find that your video recorder must be switched on to allow daisychaining through it. You may need to select AV on that as well.
