Bangkok to Hua Hin

We are travelling by coach from Bangkok to Hua Hin soon, has anyone done this, what is the journey like, and how long does it take?? Thanks all.

The buses are air-conditioned and frequent. The journey takes about 3 hours.

If it is part of a package deal booked in the UK, it is lilkely to be a minibus. Three hours is typical, depending on the time of day, the weather, the destination (some hotels are the other side of Hua Hin) and the departure point (knock off 30 minutes if going from the airport). Departures between 08.00 and 09.30, and 17.00 and 19.00 may take 30 minutes longer.

They tend to stop halfway at a Service Station where you can buy drinks and snacks etc but the loos are a bit ifffy!!

Smurfchops, would you let me know what the journey was like when you get back. I want to go next year but the kids will be 7 & 9 and not sure they'd enjoy the road journey. Don't suppose it would be any worse than landing at Bangkok, waiting an hour and half then up for another hour.

Rocky, done it now, and we're back. Took the Qatar Airlines flight from Gatwick to Dohar, an hour wait and another flight from Dohar to Bangkok. Same on the way back. I would recommend, if you can afford it, a flight direct on BA from Gatwick or wherever, direct to Bangkok, it just cuts down the flight time and you can relax and possibly sleep a bit longer. The airline was fine and quite a bit of leg room, two meals on each flight and I think Qatar airlines have more leg room than BA. Also we had a minicab from Bangkok to Hua Hin and a minibus back which was included with our package tour. It is a long way, approx three hours there and four hours back, depending on traffic in Bangkok. PART TWO BELOW

February is a good time, around 80 degrees, any other time is way too hot or rainy season. You see loads of things on the journey, like the salt flats and the way people live out there, on the roadside, so yes, I would say it it is an interesting part of the journey. And they stop halfway for a breather, usually in a petrol station where you can buy drinks etc. Go to the loo before you set out on the minibus though. But when you get to Hua Hin, it is well worth the journey. Where will you be staying? We were in the Hilton, dead centre of town, the best hotel around. If you are out of town, you will have to get a taxi in and out of Hua Hin every night, it is so handy to be so near the shops day and night, I would thoroughly recommend the Hilton Hua Hin every time. Lovely people, great cheap food, etc. Eat on the beach during the day, go to see the Lady Boys in the Blue Angel at night, get loads of foot massages which also incorporate your legs, back and head and all for �5 - it takes roughly an hour. If you are going that far, you must go to Bangkok, although I don't know if I would recommend it as a place for kiddies, quite an 'adult' resort ! Hi Smurfchops thanks for your answer, it sound like you had a great time. I do fancy Hua Hin but it is the drive that puts me off, not so much for me and Mr Rocky but for the kids (loo breaks and all). If we go we'll fly Thai Air into Bangkok (wonderful airline), thats why I first thought of Hua Hin as the thought of getting on another plane as we did before to get to the islands is quite daunting. Have read a couple of scarey reviews of Hua Hin, really shouldn't look at those websites, everyones view is different, one I read for Phuket described the locals as rude & unhelpful!!!, I don't think you could meet a more amiable and pleasant race of people so good knows how that reviewer behaved to get an unwelcome response.
