Mystery (to me, that is! ) plants

These are four shrubby plants at our new house and even though I have tried I can't identify them.. Can anyone help, please? Thank you.

the second pic is a skimmia, the 3rd and 4th pics look the same to me I am pretty sure they are Euonymus. The first one looks a bit like hostas but I think it is too early for them although the holes indicate something that slugs and snails quite like the taste of.

Hi Cetti......I agree with Jules but not sure about no.1. How big is it? is it as light a green as it looks on that pic?

Hope you've settled in to your new place...are you pleased with it (& the garden)?

Hi Robinia (and Jules) The first ones are covering part of the garden....are very light green with quite small leaves.

We've been here a month now and it's heavenly. Hanging out washing with birds serenading me. Oh the sheer bliss!! We will need a few thou just to modernise it but as we don't, we'll just enjoy what we have. The garden is 40x40 so quite small - but it's flat - and has trees and bushes, of which I know nowt - so expect to be bombarded with q's :-)

1st one - lungwort (aka pulmonaria)
2nd one bergenia (also known as elephants ears)

hi again...so pleased for you Cetti. Never mind the mod cons eh? so long as you have what you need that's how I try to think nowadays. Mind you, after having some serious pruning done in my garden there's a lovely space....just right for a summerhouse....<dreams>

ooh, you have flowers earlier than me...I love pulmonaria...aka in these parts as Soldiers & Sailors.
Still unsure about no 1, I'm sure our resident garden wizard - Thunderbird - will know. (Bound to be something really common & I'll have to hang my head....) :o)

Hi Cetti, You have some nice plants in your new plase and it all looks like it's bursting into life! most of the plants seem to have been chosen for shade I'd say.
Thanks for the mention Robinia, I'm in agreement with you and Jules on the ID.
Starting from the top, #1 really had me bamboozled, it looks familiar but I cant be sure, the leaves remind me a bit of Erythronium (dog's tooth violet) a bit like one of the Asiatic lilies too (Lilium) Hope we can see it again when it flowers.
2, yep Skimmia, 3a &3b Euonimus, 4 Paulmonaria (Lungwort) & 5 Bergenia, thats out early !

Thank you Tbird, now they've been identified I can find out what to do next. How lovely if they were lilies - my favourite flower, but I'll post a pic later for you to see.

Yes, the whole garden is bursting with life including hover flies and bumbles. A bit early so I hope the poor little things don't have a shock. Thank you everyone.

I think 3 and 4 look more like Pittosporum than Euonymus.

Thanks for that closer detail Cetti, I now feel inclined to agree with Hawkwalk now on 'Pittosporum', The black twigs and purplish pink tinted spots tie in with that shrub.
It looks almost idenical to a variety called P. 'Garnetti' in my book, well spotted !

yes, oh mysterious one, seeing the height also makes the diagnosis a little easier & I agree with the Hawk/T-bird.

Maybe number one is some sort of lily, It definately has the right sort of leaves but I cannot really tell from the view, as I can't see the overall shape, height....
