hiya, i desperately need to find some free, downloadable software which has the 'lasso' tool to find the edge of a shape and cut it out for you. I'm trying to put a logo on something I've designed and need to cut the background out as it's a different colour to the background of where I'm trying to put it. Thanks!

for a free trial version of Paint Shop Pro. The trial lasts for 30 days, which should be ample time for you to cut out your log.

how do you get the magic wand tool to only find the outer edge of a shape, not the text etc inside? I've tried altering the tolerance etc but no luck =S

Sounds as if you need to investigate 'transparency'??

Use the freehand selection tool in Point to Point mode (you'll find the options on the toolbar above the work area).

Click carefully around the outside of your shape. Double-click to finish the selection.

Then, hold down the Ctrl key (you'll see a minus beside the cursor) and click around the internal areas that you don't want. This will remove them from the selection and should hopefully leave you with just the outline that you want.
