Any ideas? i know that they would vary but roughly the price you would be expected to pay for a 6 month old male horse, which will be used for racing.... cheapest and most expensive. I have no idea what breed it is as yet. Then of course there will be the up-keep of the horse, stables, food, training... basically the cost of the horse and a yearly fee. I thought perhaps around the 25k mark... but a mate said it could be around 250,000....Thanks in advance! ;D

ALL racehorses are Throughbreads, and have to be registered with Weaterbys to race in Britain.

The cost of the horse as you say will vary, you also say male horse but a stallion will cost more than a gelding, you realy need to seek the help of a reputable race horse trainer, before you even attempt to buy a horse, as you know so little about it, you could end up losing a lot of money.

250K is closer to the mark though.
You need to contact a bloodstock agent. They have an in depth knowledge of just about every horse out there which is bred for racing and will be able to advise you on everything. Cost will vary hugely depending on the horses bloodlines - they can sell for close to a million if they have a particulary good bloodline.
You could join a syndicate and then the cost would be divided.
Would also depend on whether you wanted a flat race horse or a jumper. They usually start off over the flat and if they are not fast enough and are built for it then they go jumping.

You would be better to contact a trainer and ask about a horse already in training, then you would know what you are getting, as many youngsters never even make a racecourse.

As Pelican says, a syndicate would be a good idea, you can get as many as 25 people in some and for your money you get to visit the stables, and get passes for when the horse races. You can also have syndicates which have more than one horse.

Whatever way, it is a very expensive hobby!
Varies, we picked up a TB yearling for 800 the other day. At the other end of the scale, one last year went for over 1 million.
