Poodledoo, bear in mind that LV is North America not South, although they prob mean the one in New Mexico, rather than Nevada. However, this is still USA, unless you mean the Southern States? Could make a difference to the remaining answers! ja

Thanks Johnalex. This quiz is teaching me how ridiculous it was to learn enough geography to be able to pass with the lowest grade at O Level. However, with the help of a good atlas, I've been able to see where the quiz is going round the world, and to search in that area for answers, give or take a few hundred miles! SPRAIN ADA has raised more than a few comments from ABers, especially as places may be spelt differently in different languages.

Thanx 2U2 Poodledoo - I assure you I'm no better at Geography than you are. The only thing I remember is that Columbus circumsized the world with a 50ft clipper.

No more answers for you yet but would definitely consider 'Carol' a strong contender for Q2. Together with 'a nil <<' we get Carollina, very nearly Carolina. Might give you an angle to work on, or another blind alley! Cheerz, ja

Nice one Johnalex. Was hoping that laughing might release the dolphins (endorphins) to solve the answer. Was thinking along the same lines as you for no.18, but had sing and nil which was leading nowhere. Reversing a nil seems more plausible. Do you think no17 is Sacramento, or have I really been staring at the atlas for too long? I must be getting Sprain ada fever!

Hi Poodledoo - Seems we're both thinking along the same lines.

Q18 I did consider 'sing' but abandoned in favour of 'carol', which of course is also a verb but matches the clue more joyfully. The comma in the clue could be a trick, eg 'Lorac'+O (reverse + nothing) but leads nowhere.

Q17 Regarding 'Sacramento' I don't think this would be valid. A sacrament is really more of a ceremony or religious service, whereas 'chalice' is a cup/goblet/grail. I was hoping 'a cup' might tie in with Acapulco but no more ideas. Lose a point from a symbol could be 'Sign' minus S or N ?

Thanks Burgess. Did you happen to ask the organiser which atlas she used when she compiled the quiz, as several of us can't find the answer in ours! Perhaps she will see this posting and tell us, as place names vary according to different languages.

Re 34. I am pretty sure of the places either side of Q34 and so it must be in the Indonesia area. There is a place in Borneo called SAMARINDA, this includes all the letters of SPRAIN ADA (if you change the P to M) what do you think? What do you have for Q45?
