�80 fine for not redaclaring sorn

Here is my problem. I received the 80 pounds penalty for failing to renew my bike sorn. I declared my wehicle sorn 2 years ago and since i never received the usual blu and yellow form to either retax the vehicle or declare it sorn.

Now i'm in dispute with the dvla and basically they say that such a form (V11) it's "a courtesy service only, designed to simplyfy re-licencing....... ...the receipt of this reminder should not be relied upon in any way..."

Basically the responsibility is mine even if they got us used to the "courtesy reminder" on which i think every single motorist in the uk relies on.

I don't want to pay and i wanted to ask you if you know anything on this matter and if it could be a case to take to court, for which i would up for.

it is as the dvla say only a courtesy notice,so i think you really dont have a leg to stand on.

There is no statutory obligation for the DVLA to produce V11s. The full responsibility for ensuring that a vehicle is correctly licenced, or subject to SORN, rests with the keeper.

In respect of my car tax, I have only received one V11 during the past 3 years. Luckily for me (I suppose), I am not reliant upon such a reminder to renew my VEL.

They lull you into a false sense of security, one little mistake and they hit you with the fines.

Only wish the police were as efficient with the yobs, they only get a slapped wrist or a �50 fine, the motorist is an easy target.

I think this is just another stealth tax. I put in a SORN for my old bike along with my log document for my new bike and STILL got fined!!! I believe this system is playing the numbers, If enough rules are made we are bound to fall foul at some stage and its another �80 to the government.
