I have a comprehensive motor insurance policy and pay 50 excess on a new screen. Although not obliterating my view at present there is a 9" crack on the passenger side.
1. Is this grounds for having it replaced?
2. Although the insurance company will only change like for like if I had a tinted one put in would they pay for it except for the difference in price?
3. Obviously each car is priced differently but what is the % difference between the two?

Quite often someone like autoglass will inspect it for free and replace if necessary. You can say that it is distracting and in your line of sight they will then replace it. It may not pass an MOT with the crack - so you're better off changing it now.

Whether it will be tinted will be up to the car's spec as they will only replace with the correct windscreen for that model. If you want a completely tinted screen - they are illegal, but if you want one to match the other glass on your car - believe me there will be a difference - you can get a gradual tint - usually grey - depending on make and model.
1. yes, that's what you pay your insurance for.
2. no. some will only replace for what the standard screen is and some will replace what you had on there at the time of insuring it.
3. difficult to say, but I have known a 200 normal screen to cost 360 for tinted.

9inch crack on your screen is dangerous whether its blocking you view or not. You MUST get it replaced.
and it wont pass a mot either
