Being tailgated.
3 Answers
If i remember correctly (highway code)then if someone is tailgating you, you are advised to slow down?! Although drivers tailgating you seem to get really annoyed when you slow down and sometimes try to overtake you dangerously. I had a police car tailgating me does the same apply? Is there a maximum you can slow down because now it annoys me so much (more at night when the lights reflecting in your rearview into your face) i slow right down. e.g. 30 down to 15. I also know people that slow down and speed back up when they are goin to be overtaken

The police may have needed to get a closer look at you, for example you might have looked like someone who is wanted. But they still have a responsibility to drive within the law. If you think they have not done so, you should bring the matter to the attention of their supervisor.
I would advise to slow down aswell. Don't get bullied by anyone into speeding up just because they are 2 inches from your bumper. If they continue to tailgate even after you've slowed down you'll know that if there was to be a collision, they would hit you at a slower speed. Generally, if I am being tailgated and I slow down, the car behind tends to overtake anyway. Which is fine by me - I'm happy to let them take their dangerous driving somewhere else. Also if you are getting blinded by lights in your mirror at night you could always flick the rear view mirror to the anti-dazzle position?
