Whats the best way to become a carpenter im 24 but dont want to do a fast track course as mentioned in someones plumbing question but i dont think i can afford to be an apprentice i need to earn at least �15,000 a year im worryed that if i do a college course i wont have enough experiance and get it wrong or come up against somthing i havent learned

There are not many options open to you are there?

You don't want to do a fast track course, you can't afford to be an apprentice and you don't really want to do a college course.

How else do you think you are going to learn the trade?  By a fairy waving a magic wand? - I don't think so!

No I was after abit of HELPFULL advise on how much i can expect to earn as an apprentice and whether the college route was a waste of time or not but cheers anyway mate

How about staying in your current job for now and studying in the evenings?

Fast track might get you started on wood butchering.  Either take a look at the above, or browse the trade papers (Contract Journal etc).  You will have to go through some form of apprenticeship or training even before you earn �15,000.  A good site labourer or carpenters mate (lacky) can earn up to �8.50 per hour.  Typical weekly earnings for a skilled wood butcher (carpenter/joiner) are betwen �400-500 a week.

If you really want to do it , find a way . We spend a lot of our lives at work , do a job that really interest you , when and where you can . Good Luck . Dont give up , ask every one you know if they can help you could you do some labouring ect at weekends and get in that way ?
