We have a marble & brick fireplace and the worst thing is the color (white/gray w/black swirls)from 1968. It is hard to modernize with any wall color other than gray or white to match the fireplace. Could we paint over the marble & bricks?

Hi Aletta, You can easily paint the brick, but you will need to use a primer made especially for that or all your paint will be absorbed into the brick. Ask at your diy store. I did a search at www.google.com and put in the search box: paint + marble and it took quite a while to find these two sites. http://www.paintstore.com/drpaint/27787.html http://www.learningstone.net/conversa/arc001/msg00714.html Good luck, Newt
