I want to have a Freeview box in my bedroom but my only TV connection is via an NTL cable. Does this mean I won't be able to receive any channels? Does the Freeview box have to be connected to a rooftop ariel?

You could try an indoor aerial but you may not get all the channels unless you are near a transmitter.
Hi, when i lived in a flat i had a freeveiw with an indoor aerial and it worked ok, just had problems every now and then with the reception on some channels but i did recieve all of them but now ive moved into my house i have to use a outdoor aerial otherwise i wouldn't recieve anything so i guess its what kind of area you're in.
To answer your question YES your freeview box must be connected to an external aerial, can you receive freeview in your area ?. The NTL box can only give you the channels you have signed up to and is not intended to give any not paid for channels. You can of course get a second NTL box or run a second output from the existing box to your bedroom you can then only watch what is being viewed on your main tv .
