I am guessing that you only have a max of 3k to spend, otherwise you would not be looking at those cars.

Don't touch Ford Explorer... regardless of it being lpg, it will be very thirsty, poor ride and tacky interior.

Don't touch the BMW... firstly, it is a bmw, but more importantly you will spend 500+ on servicing... but if it is high mileage you are looking at over 1000.
Unless you are buying it to run it in to the ground.
I am guessing it is an H reg?

Far more practical, and fashionable, to go for a golf... rather than owning an old big car because people will just say... there is a poverty stricken person who can only afford an old banger, but is trying to look good by buying an old big banger.

Sad, but true.

Thanks for your advice, I do appreciate it but a golf or something so small is my worst nightmare. Maybe I should look for a cheap to run and maintain large car. I know what people say about men and big cars but I like the comfort/safety of them.
No, I agree there... I prefer large cars for the pure luxury and it would take a very large crowbar to remove my from my range rover, but we also have smaller cars.

I would not recommend a cheap big car because they obviously have something wrong with them, will go wrong sooner and will be ludicrously expensive to maintain, fix and run.

Your price band is a bit too small. Why not buy a very very cheap run around (small, yet still stylish) until you have enough money, say 10k, and buy a decent couple of year old S Type Jag... hell, even a big XJ Jag wouldn't be toooooo bad for that price?

Just don't want you to buy something on a whim and for it to cause you to remortage just to have it serviced!
