There are rats under my next door neighbours shed that are coming into our garden too (the fence is not solid, its like chicken wire).

What is the best humaine way to get rid of them, traps or poison.

if its poison then what about there bodies, will they not decay and rot and attract flys etc..

TIA

My friends husband used a rat trap (cage type of thing) and got a small scratch from the live rat ,he was quite ill after from infection needed high dose antibiotic. I don't think that kind of trap is good if you don't know what you are doing. We used poison in our garden ,sometimes the rats die near the poison ,just shovel them up and put in bin other times they can go off somewhere else to die and you never find them.
Your neighbour has got to do something about the rats as well or the problem will get worse.
My sister had a similar problem she contacted the local council & they sorted it out for her, using poison. As to the dead rats she never mentioned finding any, but when I was working & rent a kill had been round if the rats died in the cable ducts the smell was terrible
Definately phone the council - I don't know if they are all the same but ours don't charge for getting rid of rats although they do for mice.
Check if they charge because our council started last year charging about 90 because they contract out.
Our local Council laid some poison to get rid of a rat for us last week (free of charge) - when he couldn't find a body when he came back, he said not to worry because something out there would eat it in no time. And they asked us not to put nuts out for the birds, because they're covered in something that can make a rat immune to the poison. It's a shame, because I like to watch rats climbing the trees to get at the nuts!
