Would it not be a good idea to have this restriction included in the Rules?

Precisely .. I was directed to view the Site Rules when told that my access had been denied (presumably for contravening the 5 minute rule), but where is this stipulation shown??
Im new on this site but im sure ive read some where that if you post 3 times within 5 minutes its classed as chat.
Any way i dont know you samurite but welcome back
thanks mrknowall .. it's good to have been released from limbo ! ☺
I have been asked a couple of times if i was You
There is nothing in the Site Rules that about the 5min rule.
I have only ever seen it stated officially in pink posts. If you are minding your business in another section there is no way you would know about it other than by rumour and some sections don't have time for rumour.
I was only told about this as a retrospective reason for my repeated suspension, apparently there is a penalty list for suspensions
it's not a 'rule' in the sense that it's forbidden behaviour; it's just that rapid posting looks to the robots as if it might be spam, so you get suspended for a while until they check you're not a Nigerian accountant.
This 'Rule' or unfortunate consequence of 'being caught as a spam suspect' has caused problems many times before ....

Petitions and supportive comment has been made for those in the past innocently caught up.....

Presumably there is no Rule written, since there isn't an actual Rule ... the Rule is re spammers etc

Can't the techies work out a better way to 'monitor' for spammers?

But, there are a few ABers who seem to sit at their screens with itchy fingers and, at times, answer too many questions in a short space of time ..... as if it is a race .... such persons should be discouraged ... for the greater benefit of wider participation.

Too many Abers 'rush' to get a one word answer down (to be first) ..... this contrasts with more thoughtful Abers who offer explanation and links to helpful sites
I often answer with one word if the question itsself is simplistic in nature, for instance, is coal black? I would answer 'yes' and leave other people who 'care' to answer further. lol
Lector--I seem to recall that you were nicknamed the "one minute man" on a Q&P puzzle, because you answered so quickly!!!
I posted well within this five minute rule the other day in Arts and Lit ...at 14.41..14.42..and 14.43 to be precise and I wasn't suspended ....which leads me to believe there are are other forces at work other than AB robots .
I don't think it's anything to do with people being "quick on the draw".I think it's pedantic jealous reporting of the big guns in Q&P by silly little people with nothing better to do.Who then reinforce their remarks by blatant sarcasm and reminders of their misdeamours in other threads .
Also I would like to know what "wider participation" means .
Does this mean across the whole site ? Because if it does ..it's not your business lector who uses which category .if people want to stick a favorite category that's their business .

I quite agree with shaneystar2. A little later on this section you can find a long thread celebrating a youngster's birthday - what's so wrong about that?
