Sending a payment to Italy

I ned to pay a deposit for my holiday but I am renting an apartment directly from the owner they have requested the deposit is paid into their bank account. My bank say that the only way I can do this is to do a Telegraphic Transfer which will cost me �25 is there another way? Can I get a postal order in Euro's or if I sent a cheque in GBP will they incur any charges when they deposit it?? TIA

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You can get a 'postal order' in ��, but not from a post office - any bank will do one - ask for a foreign currency cheque. It will cost, but less than �25. Thomas Cook also do them - it used to be �10 but that was years ago.
Depending how much it is cash in the post might be an alternative - under �5 for recorded delivery including postage.
