I've never attempted the Mystery Walk before, but I thought I'd have a go! GK and cryptic finished! I was hoping that some kind soul(s) might give me a shove in the right direction, as I don't really know where/how to start. I think we're in North Kent? Is it essential that I have the OS map to hand in order to solve the clues? Any tips (I'm not asking for answers!) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Try starting at a railway station in north Kent East of Gravesend. Think of ring tones for your mobile!! You can use multimap to find the places with cryptic place names on the Telegraph map.

Many thanks Arabesque. I appreciate your time and advice. Mystery Walk virgin going into action... !
Good luck with this shardlake.

The two clues that did it for me were the mention of eel-fishing (and I thought it had to be Canvey Island or around where it actually is), and the town where it sounds like he's paddling.

Once I had the right area and worked out which way was North, I solved all the clues using Multimap in about 10 minutes - no need for an OS map at all.

Thanks Lipsiot. I'm most grateful. I've found Iwade and Otterham Quay, so I think I'm in the right area. It's taking me a while to orientate myself, but I think I'll crack it! I can't seem to get Bedlam's Bottom on multimap though. Anyway, thanks for your advice and I'll press on.
