Sour-ce, source
Question Author
Hi Aquagility and thanks. I did think of source (sour being bitter) but where does the "ce" come from?
Good morning, JMR. I was afraid you would ask that and I wondered about it myself. But the rest seemed so right that I put it down to careless clueing - I am not familiar with this puzzle.

However, I'll be the first to put my hand up if you find a better solution!

Regards, Aq.
Some churches refer to 'these days' as Common Era , perhaps that's where the CE comes in ?

Thank you, bridgenut. Wikipedia gives this -

short forms for Common Era and before the Common Era are CE and BCE. ...

I learn something every day on AB!
