Can anyone reccomend a really serious weedkiller. I have a patch of ground beside my garage which is covered in rubble etc. It may be some time before I do anything with it so I want to kill of present weeds & stop others growing.

What I would recomend is a 'Glyphosate' based weedkiller such as 'Round up', it's a sytemic herbicide that will work it's way down through the roots and kill it outright and it will biodegrade naturally leaving no residual affect and you should be able to replant, if you wish in about a month.
If you have tough woody stuff like budlea, elder etc go for 'SBK Brushwood Killer' Good Luck Tbird+
Ps now is a good time to spray!
sodium chlorate - very strong and you will not be able to re-use the soil for 6 months to a year.
B&Q have a tub- green and white- it contains sodium chlorate. Its amazing stuff! You cannot use the soil for up to a year later. The one you see on adverts are pretty crap- this is no frills, but does the job!
