longest running comedy

a Freind told me that last of the summer wine has the longest running,unbroken run of any british show title(except for soaps)but i'm sure that several years ago i read that ...(of all progames) rab . c. nesbit..the govan philosopher was the longest,from about 1986 till 1997,i know other progames have run longer but we are talking about unbroken run's here....any thoughts...ta

Rab C Nesbitt had 8 series over 10 years from 1990 -1999, and had 53 episodes and 1 special.


Last of the Summer Wine has been broadcast since 1973, has 28 series totalling 240 episodes plus 29 specials and the 29th series will be broadcast this year.

im not to sure about unbroken runs, but i would guess "last of the summer wine " has it as it also will be the longest running comedy show in the world ,when the 28th series starts.

maybe it just feels like that last of......has been around longer....i'm 40 next year and it's actually starting to look like a well writen and laugh out loud comedy show.....?
