tax on spirits

Is it true that Gordon Brown has never increased the tax on spirits? if so why ?

I can't remember him increasing tax on spirits - but he may have done.

Government has been lobbied for years by the Scottish distilleries to CUT duty on spirits, which is far higher than other alcoholic drinks, but he has refused to do so.

Not increasing duty is a half hearted response to the industry.

He increased it on his first couple of budgets - I worked for BP at the time and remember having to reprice them along with the fags and pertol.

In the news this morning that whisky now accounts for a quarter of all of UK's food and drink exports so they're not doing badly!

I didn't reprice pertol - in fact it was petrol.
