our cat is dead
17 Answers
our cat was killed yesterday, we think it was run over, we are so sad, can't stop weeping, it was such a lovely character, and we can't believe how attached you become. Anyway, if people don't mind, I would like to post not a question but a eulogy on behalf of 'White Chest' warrior cat. He recognised our car by the engine noise, saw off a fox from our house, would respond to knocks on the door like a dog - alert, used to try and drink from the bathroom tap, nearly always had a smelly arse, a savaged ear, and absolutely loved people. He was fearless and cookie and we loved him. 'White Chest' spirit in the sky........

I am sure that he will be sadly missed not just by his family but by those who he met on his daily travels over his territory. I hope the end for him was quick.

thanks wolf, so glad you posted something, makes me feel better to know that he's out there, being talked about. He really was amazing, never had a pet before and one day got out of my car and he literally came up to me and demanded to be fed, he was feral, and he mewwed outside my door until we let him in. He picked us. The word went around and other cats chanced their arm. We took one more on, 'Green Eyes' and they became friends. White Chest, well if there was a film of his life, he would be played by Mel Gibson. Simple as that. Like I say, his arse was his only drawback, only last week I tried to clean it myself with some wet cotton wool. Thanks again for your kinds words, made me think about his travels on his territory. Who else loved him?
darren smith - your choice to read this, hope you never have the need to put a question on here - or are you now in that little hole it was suggested you go back to?! Splange, my sympathies to you, in time your pain will fade a little, but you will always remember your White Chest warrior and the good times you shared.
Sorry to hear about your loss. The pain eases but you're bound to keep remembering stupid little things about him (you'll probably reminicse (sorry re spelling) about the arse smell now and again!).
Have posted this before but it's a poem I've always liked, written by Constance Jenkins in memory of a beloved cat:
Weep not for me though I am gone
into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long
upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest
there is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
for all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not
the fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts
in your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
but celebrate my life.
Take care, Pud xx

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. I lost my Great Dane last weekend and know how unbearable the pain is. My thoughts are with you and yours. Just remember all the good times. And if you think White Chest had a smelly arse.....you should have tried living with a flatulant Dane for 11 years :o]
Much love

So sad to hear your news splange - an accident is so hard to cope with because you have no time to prepare and in many cases to say goodbye. He sounds as if he was a great character and well loved, smelly arse and all! (Love him!). You will have lovely memories of him to keep. My thoughts are with you

I know only too well how you feel-when we moved to england 18 years ago we brought along our monstrous black 'dog-cat'-Saki. he weighed a stone and had a jelly-belly! He was a real people-cat. His favurite place to sleep was on my shoulders...ouch! I have not had a more characterfull cat either before or since. The pain does go away....yet the memories come back as if it was yesterday. ....White Chest will always be there -watching over you
Oh my dear splange I'm so saddened to read about your loss, I lost my dearest baby Merlin last May in the same way, I can truely say that I "DO KNOW" what you are feeling and the pain you are going through. I can say the pain does get easier as time passes, but the memories of him will live on, your Warrior cat is now playing with my Merlin over the "RAINBOW BRIDGE".
My thought are with you and your family at this sad time.

sorry to hear about your loss people dont realise how attached you can get to an animal they are all so individual. Sounds to me that you need a visit to a local rescue centre to give another stray a chance of a good life. Im sure your old boy would love to see you who have so much to give a new chance to one of his brothers who has nothing and no life. What better memory could this be.
