is there a regulation against taking candy into a foreign country? i am traveling to italy and would like to take my traditional easter chocolate with me. is this allowed?

Yes - as you can buy chocolate etc in the duty free for travel abroad - I think the rules only apply to fresh fruit and veg and certain meats.
pack in your suitcase not hand luggage and forget about it.
