I took my car in for a 2nd MOT today, and they failed me again because the emissions was just abit over it should be. Therefore it must fail. Anyway, I was wondering... Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a diagnostics test at a garage.. Just roughly wanna know how much it will set me back. Or maybe how I could sort it myself. Its only a mk3 fiesta.. Any suggestions please..

I have heard that it is a good idea to get your oil changed before an MOT as old engine oil in the sump can increase the emissions reading. More knowledgeable motor buffs please confirm/deny.
a good service and a good oil will make it a lot easier to pass, but its a old banger, about time you bought a newer one

For the 1st bit of advice thanku. But for the 2nd bit, its irrelevant... I have other things to pay out for that are more important. As long as the motor gets my child and I from one place to another, it dont matter how old it is!!
Am not being unkind but it will probably cost you more than the cars worth.
Particualry if its high mileage.
there are additives you can buy that can help to reduce emissions.... redX is one of them..
i had a peugeot 405 some years ago. i was there when they tested the emissions and was shown the print out.
A FAIL ! the guy doing the mot suggested i use an additive. i thought he was trying to rip me off for a couple of but, like you i needed the car...
i put the stuff in the fuel tank and ran the car around for 5 min. went back to the garage, and got a pass..

not 100% guarentee, but it MAY do the job.

ok, thanks for that..
I think you were being ripped off Funkymoped - think he was just trying to extract some dosh out of you - Redex - wont clean emmisions up - anything you add to the fuel will just pollute more than the fuel you already using.
hiya Mr chopper.

i cant be sure the stuff i used did the job, but i know i got a fail on one test and a pass on the second..

for the sake of a couple of quid, i was happy to pay the man.
