Hi,

I was just wondering....assuming you are paid through PAYE will you automatically get placed on the new 2007/08 standard tax code. I only ask because I owed some money for the 2005/06 tax year that I paid as a lump sum to the inland revenue a couple of months ago. I want to check that they aren't going to try and collect it again through my new tax code. If they were going to place me on a different tax code to the standard one would they write to me?

If they were going to put you on a non-standard tax code they would tell you.

If they are going to put you on a standard code they might write to you but more usually not. Your employer will update automatically if you code ends in L.
