Who is this person and the name of her book

Female, first published in 1940. Not sure if she has any other published works. The story she tells is in poetic prose. Story may take place anywhere from 1880-1910? Story could be centered in England, Ireland or Scotland. She supposedly draws parallels between the country of her birth and the country of her husband. There may have been a film made about her work which carries the same title of the book. The last paragraph of the book reads: "I am __________ bred, I have seen much to hate here--much to forgive, But in a world where ___________ is finished and dead, I do not wish to live"
