Dog eating plaster

Seeing a recent posting on dogs and decorating...... We had some skimming done at home recently and our JRT kept eating bits of the wet plaster. Obviously we stopped her but what is it in plaster that sh'd want to eat.
She eats all the 'normal' dog things; toe nail clippings, cat pooh etc in addition to her more usual diet, you know the boring stuff like dog food.

Since most varities of plaster are based on calcium hydroxide, I would guess the calcium content has an appeal to the dog's taste... I would also guess that it is somewhat salty, also filling a need for the dog...
