How to look intelligent

How can you really make yourself LOOK intelligent? I've heard that carrying a pen can, but anything else?

i always find walking around with the financial times under your arm does make you look very intelligent??

wear a side parting in your hair and a smart jacket with corduroy on the elbows. Also wearing slightly too short trousers with some beige socks ans sensible shoes- that should leave no doubt.

muss up your hair and wear a white lab coat.
then, run around alleyways with a remote control in your hand muttering, 'great scott' and '10 point 21 jiggawats' and 'flux capacitor' etc when people pass by.

Pay for every little thing by cheque, that way everyone will think you're a student, which apparently means you're intelligent.
I was once in a queue behind a student who tried to pay an 85p bus fare with a cheque, i worry in case he's now a doctor or something equally important!
