My daughter is 2 years old, I had a c-section when I had her... Ever since I have gained so much weight. I haven't been able to lose any of these extra pounds. I have tried diets and exercising and all there is.. I recently went to by gynecologist, He prescribed me diethylpropion and basicly am just scared to imagine that I wont be the medium size person anymore, and while being a single mom I feel as if no one ever is going to lay an eye on me. Will these pills work?

Hi Jennifer,
Is there another name for these tablets. I am medical and don't know these at all!
PBC
What do you do by way of exercise - how often and how long?

Do you keep a food diary and do you honestly register everything that you eat. Crisps, sweets chocolate etc. can creep up on you - especially with a 2 year old.

Establish regular meals and stick to this. Eat lots of reocker salad leaves too - they suppress the appetite.

Also, quit drinking for 12 weeks. Watch the pounds fly off.

As for diethylpropion - check it out here:

That's 'rocket' salad leaves.

One final point - make sure you get a medical examination before taking up any form of exercise.

Start slow and build it.

Don't give up on yourself - and set a target - say one stone for every birthday your child has up to your target goal.

Also forget the scales just for now.

Buy a belt and mark it with a pen where it fstens comfortably now. Make some extra holes in it and once a week weat the belt with jeans.

As the weight drops, you start climbing up the notches. MArk them off as you go.

Make extra holes if you need to. And don't despair if one week, you're back at the previous notch - you could be retaining fluid, or a bit bloated. Nothing to worry about.

Go for it. And come back here in a week and let us know how you got on.

Then come back each week - we'll support you.

Well I appreciate the fact the you guys support me and want me to let you guys know. I will. I bought a belt and thats exacly what am going to do.

I started walking couple of months ago. I did start slow. As in first walking and walking, then jogging and jogging. Now I can walk, jog, and start running for longer thatn I ever imagine.

Then thins is why doesnt all this fat get off of me.......

I do watch what I eat especially cause am mexican, So that is a big thing....

Well I am tkaing your advice so let's see what happens...

Thank you....
Jennifer - This afternoon I had some more thoughts - principally on exercise.

To effectively burn fat, you need your heart working at between 45 and 75% of your maximum heart rate.

The maximum heart rate is 220 minus your age.

So, if you are 25, your max rate is 75% of 195 which is roughly 145 beats a minute.

A good clue is to exercise to the point where your conversations with people should be slightly breathless, but not laboured.

Most people fall into the trap of working out far too hard - which is fine for strengthening heart and lungs, but poor at burning fat.

Fat burning requires a more prolonged, but much gentler form of exercise.
So, following on from the above, if you can do half an hour a day, you will burn fat - assuming that your diet and drinking is under control.

(This preculdes any underlying medical reason for weight gain, which is why a medical is alwayys a good idea.)

I try to do things to the point where I know is enough am only 19 years old and I try to manage how I do things especially cause am overweight and am scared to over do it.
Come on now. Stop being scared and have a little faith in yourself.

You're a Mum and you've clearly been doing something right for the last 2 years as it sounds like your child is growing up just fine.

So, you're a bit overweight. So am I. So are most of us if the statistics are to be believed.

Jennifer - give us a smile and tell yourself every day that there are people out there who care about you - even though they're on a keyboard - and allow yourself to enjoy life a bit more.

And remember, strangers are just friends you've yet to meet.

Now - go and have fun with your little one.

Hi Jennifer,
I did not realise you were only 19 yrs.
DONT take tablets, take advice from all the others.
Exercise...... diet and I promise you'll get there!
Walk fast don't jog..... don't feel a failure if you fall off the diet, exercise regime,,,, climb back on... YOU CAN DO IT!!!
